About Marathon Petroleum & MPLX
Marathon Petroleum
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) is a leading, integrated, downstream and midstream energy company headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. The company operates the nation’s largest refining system. MPC has crude oil refineries in the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent and West Coast regions of the country. MPC’s marketing system includes branded locations across the United States, including Marathon brand retail outlets. MPC also owns MPLX LP, a midstream company that owns and operates gathering, processing, and fractionation assets, as well as crude oil and light product transportation and logistics infrastructure.
- Marathon’s Galveston Bay refinery is in Texas City, Texas, on Galveston Bay, off the entrance to the Houston Ship Channel. The world-class refining complex has a crude oil capacity of 631,000 barrels per calendar day. The refinery can process a wide variety of crude oils into gasoline, distillates, natural gas liquids and petrochemicals, heavy fuel oil and propane. Products are distributed via pipeline, barge, transport truck, rail and ocean tanker. The refinery has access to the export market and multiple options to sell refined products.
MPLX
MPLX is the midstream affiliate of MPC. Formed in 2012, MPLX is engaged in the gathering, processing and transportation of natural gas; the transportation, fractionation, storage and marketing of natural gas liquids (NGLs); the gathering, transportation, storage and distribution of crude oil, refined products, other hydrocarbon-based products and renewables; as well as refining logistics and fuels distribution services. MPLX also has long-term relationships with a diverse set of producer customers in many crude oil and natural gas resource plays, including the Permian Basin, Marcellus Shale, Utica Shale, STACK Shale and Bakken Shale, among others.
- Project Alliance is MPLX’s Gulf Coast NGL growth initiative designed to connect Permian Basin production with domestic and international demand centers. The project integrates gathering, transportation, fractionation, storage, refrigeration and export capabilities into a single value chain. Located in Texas City, Texas, the development includes two fractionators, a large-scale LPG export terminal, new pipeline infrastructure and strategic connectivity with existing MPLX assets.
